Push-Back Rack Relocation for Furniture Retailer

The Project

Hammerhead relocated 66 bays of 4-deep, 5-high push-back racking for a furniture retailer in North Carolina without taking them apart. Each assembled bay rolled on caster dollies to a new area of the same warehouse, and the move was finished inside the two-week window the customer set.

The Challenge

The retailer was making improvements to its warehouse, and as part of that work 66 bays of push-back rack had to move to a different area of the building. The customer gave Hammerhead two weeks from the first phone call to get it done. A standard relocation means dismantling every bay down to its frames, beams, rails, and carts, then rebuilding each one in the new spot.

The Outcome

Hammerhead had a crew on site the weekend after the first call. Instead of dismantling the system, the crew set each assembled bay on caster dollies under its uprights and moved it by forklift to its new position, with the beams and push-back carts still in place. At the new location every bay was re-anchored and plumbed, and all 66 were in place inside the customer's two-week window.
