Mobile Pallet Racking
Mobile Pallet Racking Systems
Eliminate wasted aisle space. Racking on powered bases creates access aisles only when and where you need them.
50%+ More
Pallet positions than selective rack
1 Aisle
All other space is storage
Floor-Rail System
One install crew, no building mods
Mobile pallet racking is a high-density storage system where rows of racking are mounted on motorized carriages that move laterally on floor-mounted rails. Aisles are created only when needed, allowing facilities to store up to 80-100% more pallets than static selective racking in the same floor area.
The Right Application
Maximum Density With Full Direct Access
Cold and Freezer Storage
Refrigerated and freezer facilities pay a significant premium per square foot. Mobile racking eliminates the fixed aisles that consume 40–50% of the conditioned footprint in standard selective rack installations, dramatically increasing pallet positions per square foot of conditioned space.
High-Value Inventory Environments
For pharmaceutical, medical device, and high-value product storage where security and access control matter, mobile racking concentrates inventory in a smaller footprint with controlled access, one aisle opens at a time.
Space-Constrained Facilities
When building expansion isn't possible and the existing footprint needs to support significantly more pallet positions, mobile racking converts aisle space into storage space, the only density solution that maintains full direct access to every pallet.

How It Works
How Mobile Racking Works
Mobile pallet racking mounts standard selective rack frames onto powered carriages that run on floor-embedded rails. All carriages move together to create a single working aisle wherever access is needed. When not in use, carriages close together and every aisle space becomes storage, delivering 80–100% more storage versus standard selective rack in the same footprint.
The system requires a laser-level floor, embedded rail installation, and electrical service for the carriage drive systems. Mobile systems require precise floor preparation: rails must be level and the foundation must support both the rack loads and the mechanical stress of moving bases. We assess floor conditions, engineer the rail system, coordinate electrical alongside standard racking permitting, and handle the entire project as a single coordinated install.
What You Get
Built In, Not Bolted On
Motorized Carriages
Powered carriages open and close on call, controlled by push button or integrated WMS signals. Safety systems prevent carriage movement when anyone is in the active aisle.
Floor Rail System
Precision-embedded floor rails provide the carriage track. We assess floor flatness and levelness before installation, a requirement for system performance and structural integrity.
Full Project Coordination
Structural engineering, electrical design, rail installation, rack system, and all permitting coordinated by one team, not a multi-vendor hand-off.

Common Questions
What safety features prevent accidents in mobile racking systems?
Modern mobile racking systems include motion sensors that detect personnel in the active aisle, light curtains at aisle entrances that stop carriage movement if broken, and floor sweeps that detect objects at floor level. Carriages will not move when the aisle is occupied. Safety systems are tested and documented as part of commissioning.
What floor conditions are required for mobile racking?
Rails must be embedded in a level, structurally adequate floor. We assess flatness and levelness before installation. If your floor doesn't meet requirements, we coordinate concrete work to create the surface the system needs. Floor condition assessment is part of our pre-installation site visit process.
How does mobile racking cost compare to selective rack?
Mobile racking typically costs 3–5x more per pallet position than standard selective rack because of the carriage mechanisms, rail system, electrical, and more complex installation. The ROI calculation depends on your warehouse space cost per square foot. In cold storage and other high-cost environments, mobile racking frequently delivers a positive return within 2–4 years through reduced conditioned space requirements.
