The Project
Multi-tier tube rack system for high-density file folder storage at a records facility in Redlands, CA, engineered for a high seismic design category. The structure carries dense paper loads across stacked shelving levels with walkway decking on every tier.
The Challenge
File folder storage is one of the heaviest loads per cubic foot in the archive world, and Redlands sits in a high seismic design category. The system had to carry that concentrated paper weight across multiple stacked levels, satisfy California seismic requirements, and still keep every folder within arm's reach of a walkway rather than requiring equipment to retrieve it.
The Outcome
Hammerhead engineered and installed a tube rack structure with shelving and walkway decking on each tier, built to the seismic loads the jurisdiction required and carried through to final inspection sign-off. The work was delivered in two phases so the facility could keep filing while the next section went up, and the finished layout puts hand-pick access on every level.
